Arman's stuff
Sushi, Flight Delays, and Tea

(Sun Dec 6 19:23:27 2009)

Today has been an interesting day. It started with a long trip to the airport...

It was actually a really good drive; the kids were great, and we sang Christmas songs all the way there. Then, we ate at Tokyo One - if you're ever in Dallas, eat there. It's an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet, plus a noodle/soup bar, plus a grill! The sushi is awesome, and there is a lot of stuff at the grill - just point, and they'll make you a stir-fry in seconds. My favorites: salmon sushi, sashimi salad, barbecued eel sushi, and tampuri calimari. Mmm... Even Xan got plenty to eat; his favorite was the quail eggs ("baby eggs") and the fried bean curd sushi (no raw fish in that one).

After we ate, I was dropped off at the airport, where I was just in time for my flight. Well, sort of. It was delayed 30 minutes, so I was actually really early. For that flight... My next flight? Not so much.

Hold your left arm out, pointing down and to the left. This is where I started. Hold your other arm up, pointing up and right, as far from the first arm as possible. This is where my next flight was to leave from. Needless to say, I ran from point A to point B, and only barely managed to make it. I was actually the last person to board the flight. Whew!

As we pulled out of the terminal, the captain said, "Folks, it seems that as we pulled out to the runway, so did every other plane in the terminal. And we're about half way. There are about, oh, 16 or 17 planes in front of us."
Half an hour later, it was finally our turn to take off. And now, here I am, waiting for my bag so I can go to the bathroom...

That wasn't the end of it, though; the rental car didn't have a GPS. I got a map and a "good luck!"
Yeah. Fun. I was only a little lost; just half an hour, three missed turns, and an annoying light (don't ask). The worst was definitely the car. The heat/ac, cd/radio, and everything else on the console was unlit. What!? Lights are cheap! Even my old, junk car had lights on the console! I had to turn on the overhead light to set the cruise control, never mind trying to adjust the heat or music. Sigh...

Well, I know better now. Next car is getting upgraded to luxury.
