I have a job!

This is a complete answer to prayer - I would even go so far as to say that it was a miracle.

This is a complete answer to prayer - I would even go so far as to say that it was a miracle. I understand that it's tough to find work - it takes ages for anyone to respond, and unless you have some sort of inside connection, there's a pretty slim chance that you'll make it. I know all about that inside connection part - the only jobs I didn't get from an "inside man" were for Walmart...

So anyway, I'd been looking for work whole-heartedly since January of '07. I graduated in May, which meant that the internship I had was due to expire - it was only for students. Thus, by the first of July, I was jobless. I applied to every job I could find, from things I could do to things that I couldn't, and a wide range of "things I would hate" thrown in. Even so, by the end of August, I still hadn't had a single job interview.

As it happens, on the last Sunday in Aug. there was a special offering. Lindsay and I had been wanting to give the first week of my "real job's" paycheck to the church, but at the time, we were broke. No job meant that we could hardly afford to give a dime. But, we had a choice of when we were going to give the money; we prayed, asking God how much we should give, and when. As I was praying, the date "Aug. 31st" popped into my head. I had no idea what it meant; I didn't even know what day of the week that was. When we finished praying, Lindsay suggested that we write down Oct. 7th as the day we were going to give the money. I wrote that down, along with what we thought would be a decent week's salary, and dropped our envelope at the altar.

The very next day, I got a phone call for an interview, scheduled a week and two days later. Then, Tuesday, I got another call about an interview, for the next day. Wednesday, I went to the interview (it was for AFLAC, as a salesman. I'm... not a salesman). That evening, my home group pastor called, and said that he had remembered a college buddy of his that worked for an engineering firm in town, and gave him my name.

Thursday, I got a call at 11:30 - Was I available for lunch? Of course I was! We talked all through lunch, then he took me on a tour of the plant. At the end, he asked if I would mind going to an interview. They had already set one up for some other people. I was perfectly willing, of course. Later that afternoon, I got an email with the details of the interview.

It was the next day, Friday, August 31st. The interview itself was actually pretty fun; there was a 'test' at the end, to make sure I actually knew what I was talking about, and I did very, very well.

A little more waiting, and I received another phone call - was I still available to work? If so, would I be willing to work for ($8,000 more than I had asked for)?

I started Wednesday, and have loved every minute of it. Was I expecting this job? No. Was I tired of waiting? Oh, definitely. Would I trade this for anything else? Not a chance in the world!
